Toronto Star High School Journalism Awards 2019: Limited Edition Wins Awards in Two Categories

On 27 May 2019, the Toronto Star held the 23rd annual High School Journalism Awards at the Toronto Reference Library. Awards were handed out in 21 categories, with the winners selected from over 700 submissions in total. The ceremony began with a small lunch, followed by a keynote speech by Toronto Star Crime Reporter Wendy Gillis, who shared her insights after covering for 16-months the news related to Toronto serial killer MacArthur. Subsequently, the awards were presented. Representing Limited Edition at the ceremony were Editor Nicole Dirks, future Editor Laura Harrison and writers Megan Chong and Sean Huang. LTD was awarded the runner-up prize in two categories: Electronic Layout and Design and Best Newspaper - 15 Staff and Under. The last time LTD won an award in this contest was several years ago, also as runner-up in the Best Newspaper - 15 Staff and Under category. The Best Newspaper prize includes $250 for use by LTD next year. Also winning many awards this year was North Toronto Collegiate Institute's Graffiti, which won Best Newspaper - Over 15 Staff, and Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School, which won several awards in the Photography and Illustration categories.
