Thank you to all of the students and staff who participated in this year’s fall Outreach events! Together we were able to have a positive impact on our community through many fundraisers and countless hours of volunteer work.
Outreach kicked off the school year with the annual Car Wash. This event was in support of the Me To We Clean Water and Sanitation pillar. TFS managed to raise over four hundred dollars to help those who do not have access to the essential resources that we do.
In September student volunteers ran 5km for Run For The Cure, in support of The Canadian Cancer Society. The TFS team managed to raise $686 for the cause! These donations will fund innovative research to help save the lives of more women, and provide support programs to those affected by this disease.
The Council celebrated Halloween with Talent Show. Students from grade 6 to Level 5 were able to showcase their talents to an audience in support of We Scare Hunger, which supports local food banks. Amazing job to all of the incredibly talented student performers!
The holiday Outreach events began with the Starlight Foundation Teddy Bear Sale. Students were able to buy a bear for themselves, a student or a staff member to snuggle. All of the proceeds went to The Starlight Foundation, which helps brighten the lives of critically ill children. The council sold the stuffed bears during lunches, as well as online, in an attempt to raise money for this cause. The sale was very successful, as we were able to raise hundreds of dollars for the foundation!
2018 was concluded with the Toy Drive! Students gave back this holiday season by donating unused toys and gift cards. The donations were placed in grade-specific boxes and, as a bonus, the grade that donated the most toys would win a prize! All of the toys were given to the Toronto Fire Department Toy Drive. TFDTD is a registered non-profit charity working with corporate partners to help pre-screened families in need. We managed to donate over 100 toys to the Toronto Fire Fighters Toy Drive! Also, a special thank you to Mme. Brunet for donating 50 Starlight bears to toy drive!
Outreach is grateful for everyone who made these initiatives possible. Through all of the hard work and dedication of TFS staff and students, we made positive change in our community. The Outreach Council is excited for up and coming events in the New Year!
